Hook Rigging Guide
Every Kiba lure ships unrigged — no hooks, no rings, by design. It's up to the angler to hang hooks and match them to the fish. The charts below are a starting point for hook size by lure weight, drawn from the specs Kiba's work has been sold to before.
The three positions
- Belly — treble or single
- Hang one hook from the belly ring: a treble (from the first column) for the most hookup points on short-striking fish, or an inline single (second column) for cleaner hookups on hard-mouthed pelagics and easier release. Not both.
- Tail — inline single
- An inline single off the rear ring (third column). Belly single + tail single is the common tuna and GT setup; belly treble + tail treble is more of an all-round popper rig.
- Nose
- Leader only — the ring at the nose is your connection point, not a hook position.

Before you rig
- These are a starting point. Size up for genuine giants — large GT, big bluefin — and anywhere single hooks are required by rule or by reef.
- Rings carry the load. Use solid rings and split rings rated to your line class. The split ring is often the weak link — don't under-spec it to save a few grams.
- Single vs. treble is a real choice: singles for better hookups on hard-mouthed pelagics, easier unhooking, and less damage on release; trebles for more points of contact when fish are slashing and missing.
- Not yet charted: the Tuna Pencil Popper, Cosmo, Saori, and Peanut Sinking Stickbait. Until Kiba's own numbers are in, rig them by the closest weight in the matching family — the pencil and the Cosmo (150g) off the GT Big Cup Popper rows, the Saori off the Floating Stickbait (120g and up, sized up), the Peanut off the Sinking Stickbait 60–80g rows.
